BC Business 30 Under 30 Recognition
I am very honored to have been recognized by BCBusiness Magazine on their Top 30 Under 30 List! I was absolutely blown away reading about some of the work that’s being done.
Anna Borecka, Alexa Bradshaw, Kolbi Roper, Souce, & Alley Goodreau – this wouldn’t have been possible without having all of you in the mix. The synergy. I can’t thank you enough for your contributions to the company, and for always pushing the envelope.
Outside of performance metrics, a large component of qualifying for 30U30 had to do with what your company was doing to advance social change within your industry. Ours was simply to enhance the mental health resources and offerings made available through benefit plans, so that companies with as few as 5 employees for example had access to $2,000+ in psychology coverage.
After holding this contract exclusively, we were then the catalyst for a major insurance provider to make this a standard offering, to all insured companies. The trickle-down effect of this is that close to 1 million insured Albertan’s can now have access to 2-3x the psychology coverage than they had previously.
I would like to extend a further thank you to some other teams outside of our company who were pivotal in this journey:
St. Francis Xavier University: X-Women Rugby & St.Fx Athletics
My university was the catalyst for a lot of great things that happened in my life, including this recognition.
The mid-university decision to switch things up athletically and play rugby was what suddenly lead me from BC to the shores of Nova Scotia. Two of my best friends came with me who later graduated, and then ended up building the company with me. Classic.
At my X-Ring Ceremony, the theme was how to bring about change. Wearing an X Ring is a daily reminder of this theme. I really look at the 30 under 30 award as a symbol of how we have carried forward that principle.
At my last Athletic Banquet, I could barely fit the rings on my hand - a huge thank you to my coaches and teammates for showing me how to build and sustain a winning culture, and for showing me to trust the process.
Dr. Margo C Watt, The Watt Lab
Dr. Margo Watt was my psychology thesis supervisor for my last two years of university. The Watt Lab has been her iconic psychology research lab for the past 20 years, where her top honors students meet weekly to collaborate on their research. She ran, and still runs, a tight ship.
Our team eventually ended up publishing the work we did from a small brick building referred to as “The Annex” in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Great ideas start in small places. Thank you for inspiring me to research, and for showing me how to bring great minds together.
Lastly – I would also like to thank our brand & marketing consultant Robyn @studiococreative, and Megan @itscommonandco for the photography!
